CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY OF LOS ANGELES
Fostering student success outcomes through creative assessment and placemaking.
PROBLEM
The College of Education at CSU Los Angeles seeks deeper insight into Black student experiences because current success initiatives often fail to engage students’ core cultural identities—resulting in weaker recruitment, a less resonant campus experience, reduced program impact, and missed funding opportunities.

We partnered with students to localize and implement our proprietary art intervention, visualizing both Black thriving and experiences of anti-Blackness across the CSULA campus. By placing students in the lead, the intervention grew as an authentic, student-driven movement that strengthened connection, visibility, and momentum for Black student success campus-wide.
